Vehicle Lettering/Graphics

It is consistently reported that the use of vehicle lettering/graphics is the most cost effective means of delivering an impactful advertising message. And while this process can be highly customized to fit the unique needs of every client, there are a few basic concepts to consider as you make your design and material decisions.

  • Generally it’s better to use the fewest number of words possible to get your point across. People have a very brief time to view your message, so make sure that you take full advantage of these critical seconds.
  • Lettering applied to the metal surface of the vehicle should be a color with a strong contrast to the vehicle itself, and white lettering provides the best POP on glass.
  • Select a font that is easy to read, and when possible use a combination of upper and lower case letters.
  • We suggest a minimum of 3” letter for best visibility.

Signarama uses only high quality vinyl manufactured by industry leaders such as 3M and Avery. With appropriate care these vinyl’s can be expected to last for 5 – 7 years. While it may be a little more expensive to use these products verses off brand, no name products, in real world applications they have demonstrated their value over many years of successful use. In addition to using the top products, Signarama professionally preps the surface area prior to vinyl application, and we use installation procedures that are recognized industry standards. The person supervising every vehicle lettering project at Signarama has received advanced factory training and has received certification by industry professionals. While the immediate area receiving vinyl will be cleaned by Signarama, for the best results we recommend that the entire vehicle be washed prior to delivery to our shop. Please keep in mind that it may be necessary for us to move your vehicle in order to perform our work. In contracting with Signarama you specifically give us permission to do so and leave us harmless in this regard.

Maintenance Tips:

  • Wait 7 days before washing and 30 before waxing. Never use a buffing machine on or near the vinyl, and avoid any type of product containing grit.
  • Avoid power washing, and while hand washing with a soft sponge and mild soap is clearly the best way to keep a lettered vehicle clean, “soft touch” type auto washes may be okay as well. We do not recommend the use of aggressive brush type systems.
  • Be especially careful using an ice scrapper or stiff bristle brush near vinyl lettering to remove ice/snow.
  • Should you notice an edge lifting a credit card wrapped in a paper towel can be used to smooth it out on the vehicle surface.
